Notable
Dr. Glenn Sheppard, professor (retired), Faculty of Education,
was presented with awards in recognition of his outstanding contribution to
the counselling profession in Canada at the recent national conference of the
Canadian Counselling Assocation (CCA) held in St. John’s May 24-27. Dr. Sheppard
received an honorary lifetime membership from both the Canadian Counselling
Association and the Newfoundland and Labrador Counsellors and Psychologists
Association (NLCPA). Dr. Sheppard is a past president of CCA and was head of
the Department of Educational Psychology at Memorial for nine years.
Dr. Christopher Kovacs, Medicine, presented an invited lecture
entitled Brain, breast and bone circuit: interactions of prolactin, PTHrP and
calcitonin during lactation at the 8th International Conference on PTH and PTHrP,
held at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. He also published a paper
entitled Calcium and bone metabolism during pregnancy and lactation in the Journal
of Mammary Gland Biology and Neoplasia. 2005; 10(2):105-118.
Dr. James P. Feehan, Economics, was a participant in the Atlantic
Roundtable held with the Expert Panel on Equalization and Territorial Formula
Financing. The roundtable was organized by the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council
and provided a forum for regional consultation by the Expert Panel. It was held
in Moncton on July 20.
