Dr. Noel Francis Murphy
Dr. Noel Francis Murphy passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2005, at The Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 89 years. Dr. Murphy, a rural doctor, a broadcaster, author and later a politician, was awarded an honorary doctor of laws degree from Memorial University in 1975.

Dr. Edmund Phelan
Dr. Edmund Phelan, the chair of Memorial’s Board of Regents from 1954 to 1969, died March 11, 2005. He was 103 years of age. Dr. Phelan received an honorary doctor of laws degree from Memorial in 1964.
