Memorial University has begun the search for
a new principal to succeed Dr. Adrian Fowler, who finishes
his term at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College on July 1, 2004.
The principal is the chief academic and administrative officer
of the college and a member of the university’s senior
leadership team.
Chaired by Dr. Evan Simpson, Memorial’s vice-president
(academic), a search committee has been struck. The committee
is comprised of faculty, staff and students, as well as
a community representative.
The search committee will conduct consultations with various
individuals and groups to gather input on the issues, challenges
and opportunities that will face the new principal, as well
as the particular credentials, experience and personal qualities
the candidates should possess.
The deadline for submitting comments is Tuesday, Nov. 18,
2003. Comments should be directed to the chair of the search
committee for principal of Sir Wilfred Grenfell College,
at vpacad@mun.ca
or by writing Dr. Evan Simpson, Office of the Vice-President
(Academic), Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John’s,

When he steps down in July, Dr. Fowler will take one year's
administrative leave, during which he hopes to complete
a book on cultural identity in Newfoundland literature.
It is his intention to return to teaching following his
leave.
