Convocation set to go

Memorial University of Newfoundland will hold convocation ceremonies for its St. John’s campus next week. Along with handing out about 1,600 degrees, Memorial will confer honorary doctorates on seven outstanding individuals in recognition of their extraordinary contribution to society or exceptional intellectual or artistic achievement.

Receiving honorary degrees during convocation in St. John’s are anthropologist Dr. Elmer Harp, choir leader Susan Dyer Knight, humanitarians Dr. Donald and Dr. Elizabeth Hillman, former nursing director Janet Story, Husky Energy president John Lau, Burmese Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, and Dr. Bruce Aylward, co-ordinator of Global Polio Eradication Program.

Convocation takes place at the Arts and Culture Centre May 26-28.

Sir Wilfred Grenfell College in Corner Brook held its convocation May 7, awarding over 150 degrees, including an honorary doctor of laws to Chief Misel Joe.
