Memorial University of Newfoundland will hold convocation
ceremonies for its St. John’s campus next week. Along
with handing out about 1,600 degrees, Memorial will confer
honorary doctorates on seven outstanding individuals in recognition
of their extraordinary contribution to society or exceptional
intellectual or artistic achievement.
Receiving honorary degrees during convocation in St. John’s
are anthropologist Dr. Elmer Harp, choir leader Susan Dyer
Knight, humanitarians Dr. Donald and Dr. Elizabeth Hillman,
former nursing director Janet Story, Husky Energy president
John Lau, Burmese Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, and Dr.
Bruce Aylward, co-ordinator of Global Polio Eradication Program.
Convocation takes place at the Arts and Culture Centre May
26-28.
Sir Wilfred Grenfell College in Corner Brook held its convocation
May 7, awarding over 150 degrees, including an honorary doctor
of laws to Chief Misel Joe.
