Students from the School of Pharmacy spent last week in a
flurry of community activities to promote awareness about
the role of pharmacists. March 1-7 was Pharmacist Awareness
Week throughout Canada.
Justin Peddle, chair of the planning committee for the week’s
activities, said students visited six high schools to talk
about various careers in pharmacy.
“Young people don’t realize there are so many
career options in pharmacy. We also spoke to them about what
their pharmacist can do for them.”
On the other end of the age spectrum, teams of pharmacy students
visited three seniors clubs to talk about medication and the
importance of talking to a pharmacist about taking their medication
properly.
To top things off, on Friday, March 5, a group of pharmacy
students visited Holy Cross Elementary School for a hands-on
experience with kids, showing them how to do a little compounding
by making their own lip balm.
