Crime Prevention Alert
This monthly report is compiled from information made available
by the Campus Enforcement and Patrol unit. CEP is located
in the Services Building on Memorial's St. John's campus,
telephone 737-4100. At Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, the security
office is Room AS-280, Arts and Science Building, telephone
637-6210. At the Marine Institute, Ridge Road, telephone 778-0456
to reach the security office.
The figures given below are based on the number of reports
made to CEP during January and February 2004. Incidents reported
do not necessarily result in criminal charges being laid;
this depends on the outcome of an investigation.

January
None of the fire alarms in January involved fire. A bag was
reported stolen from an office in Student Affairs and Services
in the University Centre on Jan. 5. There was a report of
a theft from a locker room in the Phys Ed Building on Jan.
5. There was another theft reported from locker room on the
Phys Ed Building Jan. 5. There was a theft reported from the
Science Building on Jan. 5. A wallet was reported missing
from a jacket in an office in the Earth Sciences Building
Jan. 5. A person was found with illegal drugs in parking Area
15 on Jan. 6. The RNC was contacted. A man was reported being
drunk and disorderly at the entrance of the University Centre
on Jan. 9. There was a report of theft and drinking in public
outside the University Centre on Jan. 15. There was a report
of a suspicious man checking doors in the Science Building
on Jan. 20. There was a break and entry of a vehicle parked
in Area 36 on Jan. 21. There was a report of illegal drug
smoking in the Parkway walkover on Jan. 22. A gym bag was
stolen from outside the squash courts in the Phys Ed Building
on Jan. 24. A purse was stolen from a study room in the QE
II Library on Jan. 24. There was a report of a hit and run
of a parked vehicle in Area 21 on Jan. 26. There was a hit
and run of a parked car in Area 62 on Jan. 28. A wallet was
reported stolen from a locker in the Field House on Jan. 29.
There was an attempted break and entry reported in the Earth
Sciences Building Jan. 31. An employee at the Aquarena reported
an altercation with three young people on Jan. 31.
February
None of the fire alarms in January involved fire. On Feb.
6, an impaired driver was stopped on Arctic Avenue. The RNC
responded. There was a report of a possible impaired driver
on Clinch Crescent on Feb. 6. On Feb. 7 there was a report
of a man breaking off the gate arm to parking Area 15B. When
questioned by Campus Enforcement, the man reportedly attempted
to hit the officer. He was charged with malicious damage,
drinking in public and attempted assault. On Feb. 10 a bag
was stolen from the QE II Library. On Feb. 12, there was a
report of a suspicious person on the sixth floor of the University
Centre. On Feb. 20, there was a fight between two men reported
in the University Centre. There was a report of verbal assault
at the Aquarena on Feb. 21. There was a break, entry and theft
in an office in the Phys Ed Building Feb. 28. Among the items
missing are an 8-millimetre camera and a laptop computer.
