| Dr.
Bridget Fernandez, Genetics, has received the 2004
Founders Award from the Lung Association, Newfoundland and
Labrador for her leading edge genetic research on pulmonary
fibrosis. Her team has identified nine Newfoundland families
with a strong genetic form of the disease.
Dr. Bernice Schrank, English, and Dr. William
Schrank, Economics, were recently recognized by the
Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) with Dedicated
Service Awards.
Dr. Jorge Segovia, Community Health, was awarded
(posthumously) the Certificate of Merit, Lifetime Achievement
Award from the Canadian Public Health Association at their
awards luncheon June 14.
Peter Ayres had his appointment as head of the Department
of French and Spanish renewed for a further three-year term
effective Sept. 1, 2004. The appointment was made by the Board
of Regents.
