Sandy Mercer
Sandy Mercer

Sandy Mercer has joined the Division of University Relations as the new associate director for marketing. A graduate of Memorial's B.Comm. program, Ms. Mercer has an extensive background in integrated marketing and brand management. She comes to Memorial from Dubai, where she was the marketing manager for the largest shopping centre in the Middle East. In that role, she developed a brand vision for the centre and implemented a correlating marketing plan.

Before moving to work in Dubai in 2002, Ms. Mercer worked for three years as director of marketing for RioCan real estate investment trust, responsible for all aspects of corporate marketing for this large shopping centre development company. Prior to that, she spent four years as a marketing director of Cambridge Shopping Centres (which includes the Village Mall in St. John's). She started her career at M5 Advertising as a media planner and buyer.

She has won a number of marketing awards in the shopping centre industry including a Canadian Maple Leaf Award for the advertising campaign initiated while at The Village, and most recently was recognized with an international award for a marketing program she developed for the acclaimed Dubai Shopping Festival.

Ms. Mercer will bring her marketing expertise to Memorial's ongoing efforts to develop an integrated marketing plan and a strong Memorial branding strategy.
