Dr. Sukhinder Kaur (Cheema), Department of Biochemistry,
presented two papers at the International Cardiovascular
Conferences held in India, in January 2004. Dr. Kaur presented
an invited paper titled Heart Disease: Why the Blame is
Placed on Dietary Fats? at the International Conference
on Cardiovascular Research, held in Lucknow, India, Jan.
8-11. Dr. Kaur was awarded the Young Investigator Award
by the International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences
at the inauguration ceremony of this conference. Dr. Kaur
presented another paper titled Is Fish Oil Therapy Beneficial
in Heart Disease? at the International Symposium on Recent
Advances in Pharmacology (theme of the symposium was Pharmacotherapy
of the Heart) held in Delhi, India, Jan. 6-8. This paper
was co-authored by Dr. Phil Davis, Department of Biochemistry,
and graduate students Pujitha DeSilva and Marion Cornish.
Dr. Christopher Kovacs, Faculty of Medicine,
is a co-author with Peter Wookey and colleagues from University
of Melbourne: Brasier G, Tikellis C, Xuereb L, Craigie J,
Casley D, Fudge NJ, Kalnins R, Cooper ME, Novel hexad repeats
conserved in a putative transporter with restricted expression
in cell types associated with growth, calcium exchange and
homeostasis. Experimental Cell Research 2004; 293:31-42.
He is also author of the chapter Fetal Mineral Homeostasis
and Skeletal Mineralization in The Skeleton: Biochemical,
