| The organizing
committee of the Royal St. John’s Regatta presented a
plaque to Memorial in recognition of the university’s
gold level sponsorship of the annual sporting event (North America’s
oldest!) – providing a co-op student to support the work
of the committee. On hand to present the plaque to Memorial
President Dr. Axel Meisen were Edgar Williams (L), Memorial’s
Department of Mathematics and Statistics and treasurer of the
2003 Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee and Keith Renouf
(R), 2003 Regatta Committee president. Dr. Williams commented
that the work experience provided to the students was so varied
and extensive that “at the end of this, you should be
able to run your own business.” To date seven students
have worked for summers with the committee, acting as office
manager and marketing co-ordinator. They also volunteer to take
crew bookings and oversee the Regatta’s museum. |
