Remembrances of Memorial past... 1975

A tunnel painting contest, held as part
of the Jubilee Year Celebrations, was won by Chris Finlayson
(L) and Bill Maloney for their painting titled Concerto
in Sea Minor. Ray Mackie (R) of Extension Services was one
of the judges of the contest. Ten groups took part in the
contest: Terry Nicholis, Gregg Pretty, Chris Gosse and Lois
Brown painted the mural Science Fiction; Youth of the World
was painted by members of the Bahai Faith; The Three Stages,
a series of paintings on university life, was painted by
P. Whelan, N. Miller and J. Miller; Winton Bascombe and
the West Indian Group painted Harmony of Colours; Imagination
was painted by Karen Sheppard and Donna Rowlands. On the
south wall near the Arts and Administration Building, Phonse
Fagan, Baxter Elliott and Keith Hillier painted Volcano;
Jeffrey Cuff and Peter Earle painted Ulysses Return near
the entrance to the Science Engineering Building; and members
of the Geography Society painted Around the World in 80
Days. The runner up was a series of murals called Magnification
painted near the entrance to their residence by the students
