Health impact of economic change
Health Canada is seeking to improve its understanding of the past and
likely future impacts of domestic and trans-national economic policies
on the health of Canadians. Its Health Policy Research Program has recently
issued a request for proposals on the health impact of economic change.

The deadline for submission of proposals is Jan. 29, 2003.
Thyroid Foundation scholarship
The Thyroid Foundation of Canada is pleased to offer a Summer Student
Research Scholarship to university students who would like to engage in
research concerned primarily with the thyroid gland or its related problems.
The research project should be supervised by an investigator from the
host institution who has a major recognized interest in thyroid function.
The stipend is $4,000 and the research project should be capable of completion
within the three month summer period. Further information and applications
can be obtained through the foundations Web site at www.thyroid.ca.
The deadline for applications is Jan. 31, 2003.
Diana Meltzer Abramsky fellowship
The Thyroid Foundation of Canada is pleased to offer the 2003/2004 Diana
Meltzer Abramsky Research Fellowship. With a stipend of $35,000 tenable
for one year, this award is open to post-doctoral candidates in the life
sciences. The purpose of this fellowship is to support and encourage research
in the field of thyroid function and disease, especially by investigators
who are new to this field. Detailed information and application forms

deadline for applications is Feb. 28, 2003.
Rx&D HRF/CIHR
The Health Research Foundation has announced its 2003-2004 competition
awards for the Summer Research Studentships in Medicine; Summer Research
Studentships in Pharmacy; and the Graduate Research Scholarships in Pharmacology.
A stipend of $4,048 is available for each of the Summer Research Studentships
in Medicine and in Pharmacy. The Graduate Scholarship in Pharmacology
offers a stipend of $12,144. Application forms and guidelines are available
from www.canadapharma.org. The
application deadline for all three awards is March 3, 2003.
Engineering Study and Research
The Canadian Council of Professional Engineers (CCPE) will be awarding
six scholarships totalling $55,000 to support advanced study and research.
Three CCPE-Manulife scholarships valued at $10,000 each are available
to engineers returning to university for further study or research in
an engineering field; two CCPE-Meloche Monnex scholarships of $7,500 each
will support engineers returning to university for further study or research
in a field other than engineering; and one CCPE-Encon scholarship of $10,000
will support an engineer returning to university for further study or
research in the field of civil engineering. The deadline for application
is April 1, 2003.
