This monthly report is compiled from information made available by
the Campus Enforcement and Patrol unit. CEP is located in the Services
Building on Memorial's St. John's campus, telephone 737-4100. At Sir Wilfred
Grenfell College, the security office is Room AS-280, Arts and Science
Building, telephone 637-6210. At the Marine Institute, Ridge Road, telephone
778-0456 to reach the security office.
The figures given below are based on the number of reports made to CEP
during October 2002. Incidents reported do not necessarily result in criminal
charges being laid; this depends on the outcome of an investigation.

October 2002
q On Oct. 25, there
was a report of skateboarders causing damage in the tunnels near the Phys
Ed building. There was a report of vandalism and public drinking near
the Splash facility at Long Pond on Oct. 2. Windows were broken out of
the Ingstad Building on Oct. 3. On Oct. 20, a fire hose was damaged in
Paton College. There was a report of someone trying to break the gate
arm from a parking area 61 on Oct. 19. On Oct. 21, a car was vandalized
in Area 27. A window was broken at the Ingstad Building Oct. 19. A vehicle
parked in Area 12 next to Paton College had a window broken Oct. 21. A
window was broken out of the Blackhall School on Oct. 12. A car was damaged
in a hit-and-run in parking Area 18 near the QE II Library on Oct. 7.
q A bag was stolen from a
locker in the Science Building Oct. 11. A wallet was stolen from the music
building on Oct. 8. A bicycle was reported stolen outside the Education
Building on Oct. 25. There was a report of an attempted break and enter
at the Grenfell residence Oct. 16. At Grenfell College, there was a report
of an attempted theft at residence Oct. 30.
q One of the fire alarms
in October involved fire. On Oct. 25, there was a fire at Cabot Court.
The fire department responded and there was considerable smoke and water
damage.
q There
was a fight reported outside the Breezeway on Oct. 25. There was a disturbance
created by intoxicated males in parking Area 18, next to the QE II Library
on Oct. 14. On Oct. 17, CEP responded to a report of drinking in public
outside the University Centre. A fight between two males at the University
Centre was reported on Oct. 18. There was an assault reported at the Breezeway
reported on Oct. 11 and the RNC are investigating. At Grenfell College,
there was a report of harassment towards a residence proctor on Oct. 19
and the report on Oct. 24 of a woman student being harassed. An assault
was reported at Grenfell College on Oct. 9. The RNC is investigating.
q There
was a report of imprudent driving on Phalen Road on Oct. 10.
q On Oct.
11, CEP discovered an unconscious woman in the University Centre. It was
determined no crime was committed.
q There
was a report of illegal drug use in the skywalk near the Earth Sciences
building on Oct. 28. There was a report of illegal drug use near Burton’s
Pond on Oct. 3. There was a report of illegal drug use outside the University
Centre Oct. 18.
q There
was a report of a suspicious person checking doors in the Henrietta Harvey
Building on Oct. 28. On Oct. 23, there was a report of suspicious persons
at the Area 3 parking lot at the Canada Games track. On Oct. 24, there
was a report of suspicious persons asking for money in the QE II Library.
There was a report of suspicious persons at the Area 3 parking lot on
Oct. 13. There was a suspicious person reported outside the Daycare playground
on Oct. 7. CEP questioned the person. The person was again reported outside
the daycare centre on Oct. 16. The president’s office received a
threatening e-mail Oct. 22. The RNC is investigating.
