ASSOCIATE
DEAN
SCHOOL OF GRADUATE STUDIES
The position of Associate Dean, School of Graduate Studies, is open for
nominations/applications from within the university. The position is half
time and the appointment is for a three-year term beginning July 1, 2003.
The position of Associate Dean is administrative in nature and provides
support to the Dean in all areas of day-to-day operations of the School
of Graduate Studies including applications, admissions, registration,
comprehensive and thesis examinations, and doctoral defences. The Associate
Dean is also an ex-officio member of the Academic Council of the School
of Graduate Studies and its various subcommittees (Executive, Appeals,
Nominating, Course Evaluation) and chairs various ad-hoc committees and
granting council selection committees as assigned by the Dean.
Candidates should have a successful record of graduate student supervision
and be able to demonstrate active involvement in the School of Graduate
Studies including experience as academic unit Graduate Officer or Chair
of the Graduate Studies Committee as well as service on various committees
of the School. To complement the experience of the Dean with respect to
chairing granting council scholarship committees, the ideal candidate
would have an established background in the Social Sciences and Humanities
Research Council (SSHRC)-supported disciplines and familiarity with the
selection processes involved. However, applications and nominations from
all disciplines will be considered.
The deadline for receipt of nominations/applications is April 15, 2003.
Applicants should submit a full curriculum vitae and the names of three
referees. Nominations should be signed by the nominee to indicate his/her
willingness to be considered for the position, and two names, in addition
to the nominator’s, should be included for future reference purposes.
