This monthly report
is compiled from information made available by the Campus Enforcement
and Patrol unit. CEP is located in the Services Building on
Memorial's St. John's campus, telephone 737-4100. At Sir Wilfred
Grenfell College, the security office is Room AS-280, Arts and
Science Building, telephone 637-6210. At the Marine Institute,
Ridge Road, telephone 778-0456 to reach the security office.
The figures given below are based on the number of reports made
to CEP during April and May 2003. Incidents reported do not
necessarily result in criminal charges being laid; this depends
on the outcome of an investigation.

In St. John’s, one of the fire alarms involved fire. On
May 6, an ashtray caught fire and was extinguished. Acts of
vandalism included broken glass in the Feild House pedway, a
sign removed from the front of the University Centre, a vehicle
damaged with a sharp object, damage to a display case in the
Phys Ed Building, graffiti written on the wall, a window broken
out of a car in Area 22, a glass door in the Chemistry Building
smashed , a hole broken in a gyproc wall in the Engineering
Building, an entrance gate to parking area 15B broken off, a
chair was thrown down a stairwell in the University Centre,
a window was broken at the Field House, an exit gate and a tree
branch snapped off in Area 17, signs and fences toppled at the
Botanical Garden, and a sign near Lambes Lane was spray-painted.
Two suspicious males were spotted near Paton College April 20.
When approached, they dropped a fire extinguisher and ran. A
woman in a room at the Science Building reported being harassed
by a lone man. There was an attempted break and entry at Gushue
Hall, a man was apprehended and charged after a break and entry
at the University Bookstore, a person was arrested for impaired
driving on Arctic Avenue, a man was discovered trying to remove
a box of garbage bags from Coughlan College, two youths were
reported throwing rocks at the Field House, a driver was reportedly
driving imprudently near Area 17, a student reported being assaulted
by an intoxicated roommate in Guy Court, students were discovered
smoking what appeared to be illegal drugs outside Gushue Hall,
people were discovered smoking illegal drugs near the Splash
facility, someone reported their boots stolen from the Phys
Ed Building, people were discovered smoking illegal drugs outside
the University Centre, a vehicle was stopped with open liquor
on Arctic Avenue, there was a fight at the Breezeway, a student
reported receiving a racial insult in the University Centre,
a group of males were reported to be disobeying rules at the
Aquarena, a driver was reported to be impaired in Area 18, books
were stolen from a room in Bowater House, a wallet was reported
missing from the laundry room at Corte Real, a man was reported
to be viewing pornography on a computer terminal at the library
and was later charged with creating a disturbance, a male was
discovered in the female shower at Blackall residence.
At Grenfell College, none of the fire alarms involved fire.
The disturbances were all related to noise from the chalets.
A man was charged with three counts of theft from the Grenfell
bookstore. |
