DR. W. GORDON HANDCOCK, professor
emeritus in Geography, presented a paper titled Provenance and Patterns
in the West of England-Wessex Migrations to Newfoundland, to Westward
Ho! Movement and Migration Conference, sponsored by the Southwest Family
History Societies at Exeter University, Exeter, Devon, England, on April
3-6, 2003.
DR. ELIZABETH MILLER, English, was the keynote speaker
at Vampires: Myths of Enduring Evil in Budapest, Hungary in May. Her latest
book, A Dracula Handbook, has just been published (in English) by Editura
Gerot in Bucharest, Romania, with Romanian translation to follow later
this year. Dr. Miller has during the past several weeks given guest lectures
at the University of Montreal, McGill, University of South Florida, and
East Carolina University. She is also participating in a documentary which
will be aired in 2004 in conjunction with the release of the feature movie
Van Helsing.
