This monthly report is compiled from information made available
by the Campus Enforcement and Patrol unit. CEP is located in the Services
Building on Memorial's St. John's campus, telephone 737-4100. At Sir Wilfred
Grenfell College, the security office is Room AS-280, Arts and Science
Building, telephone 637-6210. At the Marine Institute, Ridge Road, telephone
778-0456 to reach the security office.
The figures given below are based on the number of reports made to CEP
during January 2003. Incidents reported do not necessarily result in criminal
charges being laid; this depends on the outcome of an investigation.

January 2003
None of the 14 fire alarms in January involved fire.
There was a disturbance at Paton College on Jan. 31.
A window in the day care centre was broken with a beer bottle on
Jan. 24. An entrance gate to the Area 61 parking area was damaged Jan.
31. The student responsible agreed to pay for the damages and disciplinary
action was taken.
On Jan. 10, there was a report of reckless driving around the campus.
On Jan. 31, a man was charged with impaired driving after being discovered
asleep in the drivers seat of his car, with the engine running.
On Jan. 3, a wallet was reported stolen from the MRI unit at the
Health Sciences Centre (HSC). There was a break, entry and theft at the
University Club Jan. 17. An undisclosed amount of cash and some liquor
were taken. The RNC is investigating. On Jan. 18, a car parked in the
HSC lot was broken into but nothing was stolen. On Jan. 23, a handbag
was stolen from a reading room in the QE II Library. On Jan. 29, hubcaps
were stolen in the parking lot at the HSC.
There was a report of illegal drug use in the parking lot of the
Vivarium on Mount Scio Road on Jan. 7.
Grenfell College
None of the fire alarms involved fire.
A fleece vest was stolen from the coat check at the Backlot Jan.
1. Money was stolen from a purse in an office at the Forest Centre Jan.
14. The RNC is investigating.
CEP responded to the following complaints of noise: Jan. 9, Chalet
#7; Jan. 11, Chalet #5 and Apartment 5200, and Apartment 3200.
A phone cord connected to an ATM in the GCSU food court was destroyed
Jan. 11. On Jan. 12, a large hole was made in a gyprock wall on the second
floor of the Arts and Science classroom area when someone pushed a large
metal trolley through the wall. On Jan. 16, a pipe in the mens washroom
on the third floor of the Library/Computing Building was loosened with
a wrench, releasing water that set off a fire alarm and caused water damage
to several areas. The computer labs had to be closed for the day. On Jan.
27 hand towels were set on fire in a sink in a custodial closet. On Jan.
30, a student reported that the rear window of his car was smashed out.
The RNC are investigating.
