Pat Cashin, a third-year piano
performance major, is this year’s winner of the Registered Music
Teacher’s Young Artists Competition. No stranger to national honours,
Mr. Cashin’s prize is a recital tour of Atlantic Canada in the fall
of 2003 under the sponsorship of the RMTA and the Royal Bank. Mr. Cashin
is also one of several Memorial musicians who’s been chosen to participate
in the first ever festival of Atlantic Canadian artists Atlantic Scene
at the National Arts Centre from April 22 to May 4, 2003.
William Fleming has been appointed to the C-CORE board of directors,
effective March 6, 2003, for a three-year term. The appointment was made
by the Board of Regents on March 27. The Board of Regents also approved
the re-appointed of Neil Chaulk and Jack Ridgley to the Canadian Centre
for Marine Communications’ (CCMC) board of directors, effective
Feb. 2, 2003, for a further three-year term.
Dr. Graham Shorrocks, English, was awarded a visiting
professorship by the British Academy in order to facilitate work on the
English dialect lexicon. Dr. Shorrocks will spend a month at several universities
in the United Kingdom.
