This monthly report is compiled from information made available by the Campus Enforcement and Patrol unit. CEP is located in the Facilities Management Building on Memorial’s St. John’s campus, telephone 737-4100. The figures given below are based on the number of reports made to CEP during August and September 2001. Incidents reported do not necessarily result in criminal charges being laid; this depends on the outcome of an investigation.

August 2001
• There was one report of break and entry in August. There was break and entry offense at a trailer on the Field House site Aug. 5.

• Two of the fire alarms in August involved fire. On Aug. 9, a lit cigarette fell between the sub-floor of a deck and the roof of the Health Sciences Centre. The fire department responded and the fire was extinguished. On Aug. 18, a garbage can was reported burning at the Paton College residences. A chemical was found leaking in the engineering building on Aug. 27. It was contained.

• A student received a harassing phone call at the student radio station Aug. 21.

• There were seven reports of theft in August. On Aug. 9, a bicycle was stolen from in front of the Kinesiology building. On Aug. 14, a purse was stolen from an office in the kinesiology building; On Aug. 17, a portable CD player was stolen from an office in the Earth Sciences Building; On Aug. 10, some tools were reported stolen from the compound on Mt. Scio Road; Food was stolen from a refrigerator in Queens College on Aug. 22; Lockers were broken into and items removed from the Kinesiology Building on Aug. 22; a wallet was stolen from an office in the Earth Sciences Building on Aug. 27.

• There was a report of disruptive people in residence on Aug. 12.

• There were two reports of vandalism in August. A vehicle had its front fender damaged while parked at Burton’s Pond on Aug. 6. On Aug. 23, windows were broken at Blackall School. A man was taken into custody by the RNC.

September 2001
• There were seven reports of vandalism in September. On Sept. 12, graffiti was spray-painted on the steps of the QE II Library; There were two reports of malicious damage to vehicles in Lot 36 near the Ingstad Building on Sept. 21 and 28; A car window was smashed in Lot 59 at St. Augustine’s Church on Sept. 4; On Sept. 13, a residence window was smashed; Some music equipment was damaged in Paton College Square Sept. 6; A glue-like substance was placed in locks at the kinesiology building Sept. 23; Three young men were reported breaking windows Sept. 9.

• There were seven cases of theft reported in September. There was an attempted theft at the Education Building Sept. 23; There was an attempted theft from a car parked in Lot 36 near the Ingstad building Sept. 28; A car parked near the Business Building Sept. 27 had items stolen from the glove compartment; A valise went missing from the Science Building Sept. 27; A credit card was stolen from a bookbag in the QE II Library Sept. 27; A briefcase and a personal digital assistant was stolen from the Engineering Building Sept. 14; A vehicle was reported stolen from Area 16A on Sept. 14.

• There were six disturbances reported in September. A man was warned about drinking in public near the Burton’s Pond apartments on Sept. 22; Loud music was reported at Corte Real on Sept. 21; There were disturbances at the Breezeway Bar Sept. 13 and Sept. 14. There was a report of a suspicious person near Paton College Sept. 15 but no one was found; There was a report of loud noise at residence Sept. 5; On Sept. 14, a man was detained by CEP after causing a disturbance at the Memorial service for victims of Sept. 11.

• An impaired driver was arrested by the RNC after leaving the Breezeway Bar Sept. 14;

• There was a break-in at the Biology annex on Mt. Scio Road Sept. 7. An outboard motor and a quantity of floater jackets were stolen. There was a break-in at the Field House Sept. 2 and a vacuum was stolen.

• Only one of the 15 fire alarms in September involved fire. There was an attempted arson at the Splash facility on Long Pond Sept. 13 which did not result in damage.
