This monthly report is compiled from information made available by the Campus Enforcement and Patrol unit. CEP is located in the Services Building on Memorial’s St. John’s campus, telephone 737-4100. At Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, the security office is Room AS-280, Arts and Science Building, telephone 637-6210. At the Marine Institute, Ridge Road, telephone 778-0456 to reach the security office.

The figures given below are based on the number of reports made to CEP during October 2001. Incidents reported do not necessarily result in criminal charges being laid; this depends on the outcome of an investigation.

October 2001
• There was a complaint of sexual assault filed Oct. 23. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded and charges are pending.

• A woman reported being followed in the tunnels near the Health Science Building on Oct. 22. An investigation is ongoing.

• An unknown substance was found in the engineering lecture theatre Oct. 18. The RNC was called and initiated a hazmat response and the building was sealed for several hours. The substance was later found to be non-toxic. Another unknown substance was discovered in the QE II Library Oct. 26. The RNC were notified. It was found not to be toxic.

• On Oct. 26, money was stolen from a bank machine in the Smallwood Centre after someone left their bank card in the machine. CEP has a recorded image of the woman suspected of the theft. A wallet was stolen from a knapsack in the QE II Library on Oct. 29. A bicycle parked near the main door of Queen’s College had its rear wheel stolen Oct. 19. A back pack was stolen from the Science Building Oct. 12. A bag was stolen from a car parked in Area 16 on Oct. 16.

• One of the fire alarms in October involved fire. On Oct. 27, an overheated fryer in the kitchen of Hatcher House set off a fire alarm. The fire department was called and responded.

• A car parked next to the dining hall on Oct. 1 had its side-view mirror damaged. A door at Hatcher House was damaged Oct. 27 and a non-student was charged. A car parked in Lot 1A was damaged Oct. 16 with what appeared to be a metal object. A car parked in Lot 27 had one of its tires slashed Oct. 22. A rock was thrown through a windshield of a car parked in Area 36 on Oct. 12. A side window was broken out of the Ingstad Building on Oct. 9.

• On Oct. 26, there was a complaint of a fight in the Education Building. CEP responded but found no sign of those involved. On Oct. 19, there was a disturbance at the Breezeway and someone threw a rock into the deck area. There was a disturbance at the Breezeway Oct. 5.
