Gertrude Louise Andrews
Gertrude Andrews, a retired staff member from the Department of Earth
Sciences, passed peacefully away at the Palliative Care Unit, St. Clares
Mercy Hospital, on Nov. 26, 2001, aged 76 years. Donations in her memory
may be made to the Memorial University Alumni Fund or a charity of ones
choice.
Richard Francis (Dick) Furlong
Richard Furlong, a retired staff member from the Department of Financial
and Administrative Services, passed peacefully away at the Miller Centre
on Dec. 7, 2001, at the age of 87. In lieu of flowers, donations may be
made to a charity of ones choice.
Gildas Owen Roberts
Dr. Gildas Roberts died Nov. 28, 2001, at the age of 68 years. He passed
away peacefully in hospital in Bangor, Wales, having succumbed to injuries
sustained in a tragic accident. Dr. Roberts was born to Welsh parents
in Johannesburg, South Africa, but raised his family in St. Johns.
Prior to his retirement he was a distinguished professor of English with
Memorial University of Newfoundland and an Elder of St. Andrew`s Presbyterian
Church. A gifted teacher, noted author and proud Welshman, he will be
remembered with fondness by a wide circle of family and friends, colleagues
and former students. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Restoration
Fund of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church would be appreciated.
