Dr. Judith Adler
was named head of the Department of Sociology for three years effective
Aug. 1. The appointment was made by the Board of Regents.
Lois Batemen was
named head of the Division of Science at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College
effective Sept. 1. The appointment was made by the Board of Regents.
Dr. Wade Bowers
was named associate vice-principal (research) at Sir Wilfred Grenfell
College effective June 1. The appointment was made by the Board of Regents.
Dr. John Buffinga
was named acting head of the Department of German and Russian for the
period May 1, 2002 to April 30, 2003. The appointment was made by the
Board of Regents.
Dr. Alice Collins
was named acting dean of Education from Feb. 19 to June 30, 2002. The
appointment was made by the Board of Regents.
Elizabeth Icenhower was appointed head, Bibliographical
Control Services, in the QE II Library, effective June 1. The appointment
was made by the Board of Regents.
The Ennis Sisters,
made up of Memorial students Maureen, Teresa and Karen Ennis, have been
nominated for a Juno Award as best new country artist/group. The Junos
are Canadas annual music industry awards program, hosted this year
by the city of St. Johns.
Dr. Gerald L. Pocius,
Folklore, recently participated in a planning session on Intangible Heritage
for the Policy Branch of the Dept. of Canadian Heritage in Ottawa. Pocius
prepared an issue paper on intangible heritage for the department for
these consultations, part of planning for new heritage programs that will
be considered by the federal cabinet.
Dr. Noel Roy was
named head of the Department of Economics for three years starting Sept.
1, 2003. The appointment was made by the Board of Regents.
