Clio awards
The Regional History Committee of the Canadian Historical Association
is seeking nominations for its Clio Awards. These annual awards
are given for meritorious publications or exceptional contributions
by individuals or organizations to regional history. Books must
bear a 2000 copyright imprint or, if not previously submitted,
a 1999 imprint. Nominations must be submitted by December 31.
Canadian
space agency
The Canadian Space Agency is pleased to announce opportunities
for Canadian researchers to participate in an International Space
Station research program aimed at understanding the effects of
microgravity on materials sciences, fluid sciences, and aspects
of biotechnology studies. Full details regarding this opportunity,
as well as instructions and forms for proposal preparation are
available at website www.space.gc.ca/microgravity_ao.
The deadline for letters of intent is November 17, 2000 with
full proposals due on January 12, 2001.
Visiting
professorships
The upcoming competition for the Burroughs Wellcome Fund Visiting
Professorships in the Basic Medical Sciences will be the final
one under this program. Up to five awards of $5,000 (U.S.) will
be made to Canadian institutions to host a visiting professorship.
Visiting professors will spend up to five days at the host institution
where they will engage in teaching and discussion with students
and faculty as well as deliver a Burroughs Wellcome Fund lecture
on a subject pertinent to their discipline. The application deadline
is March 1, 2001.
Environment
Canada
The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Canadian Wildlife Service
(CWS) of Environment Canada are inviting submissions under the
2001-2002 funding program of the Endangered Species Recovery
Fund (ERSF). The purpose of the ERSF is to sponsor high-priority
conservation projects to assist the recovery and protection of
endangered Canadian wildlife and their natural habitats. The
key to a successful application for funding will be a demonstration
that the proposed project will achieve wildlife conservation
results. Application form and guidelines are now available at
www.wwfcanada.org.
The deadline for submission of applications is Jan. 5, 2001.
