DR. RICHARD HAEDRICH, Biology, took part in a workshop on Patterns and Processes in North Atlantic Ecosystems held in Bergen, Norway, in early February. As a keynote speaker, he addressed the biogeography and feeding patterns in fish communities of the mid-Atlantic Ridge. The workshop was sponsored by the international Census of Marine Life program and the Institute of Marine Research, University of Bergen. The latter has an established exchange program with Memorial.

DR. SUDESH VASDEV, Medicine, was an invited speaker at the annual conference of the International Society for Heart Research (India Section), held Jan. 27-29 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. He spoke on Nutritional Approach to Prevent High Blood Pressure. Dr. Vasdev has also been invited to speak at this year’s World Congress of the International Society for Heart Research symposium, titled Frontiers in Cardiovascular Health, to be held in Winnipeg July 6-11.

DR. JAMES P. FEEHAN, Economics, and Dr. Mutsumi Matsumoto of Ritsumeikan University in Japan, are to publish a paper dealing with the benefits and costs of government investment. It is titled Distortionary Taxation and Optimal Public Spending on Productive Activities. This paper has been accepted for inclusion in Economic Enquiry, which is the journal of the Western Economics Association International and based at Texas A&M University. Earlier versions of the paper have been presented at conferences in Japan and Europe.
