Margaret
Rompkey
Margaret Rompkey, former library assistant in the Queen Elizabeth
II Library, passed away June 1 at the age of 87. Mrs. Rompkey
will be remembered especially by faculty and students for her
presence in the Reserve Section of the old Henrietta Harvey Library.
She is predeceased by her husband, William H. Rompkey, Sr., and
her sister, Katherine Cramm, former administrative assistant
to the University Librarian. She is survived by two sons who
are graduates of Memorial University: Senator William Rompkey
and Dr. Ronald Rompkey, professor of English. Her grandson, Peter
Rompkey, is a graduate in theatre from Sir Wilfred Grenfell College.
Frederick
Rees
Frederick Rees, retired director of Human Resources at memorial,
passed away suddenly, surrounded and comforted by his loving
family on June 4, 2001, aged 85 years. Mr. Rees was educated
at Bishop Field College, Memorial University and graduated from
Nova Scotia Technical College in 1938 with a degree in Mining
Engineering. He worked at Dosco Mines, Bell Island for 34 years
- holding various positions, beginning as an underground miner
and culminating with the position of General Manager until 1967.
He later worked at Memorial University where he helped establish
the first Personnel Department remaining there until his retirement
in 1981. Donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and
Stroke Foundation, the Alzheimers Society, or a charity of ones
choice.
