CHSRF postdoctoral
award
The Canadian Health Services Research Foundation has announced
its inaugural postdoctoral award competition. Candidates are
to propose a training program which must include a work placement
with a decision-maker, and a communications skills development
component. It should also include teamwork on priority research
issues; acquiring new tools and experience to deepen specialty
knowledge, and also the teaching of undergraduates and graduates
or the mentoring of graduates. A total of $5 million will be
available over the next five years under this program. The foundation
will provide up to eleven awards per year, each with a two-year
(or equivalent) period and an annual (or equivalent) stipend
of $40,000 and allowance of $5,000. For more information, please

Health Services
Research Advancement Award
The Canadian Health Services Research Foundation invites nominations
for its 2001 Health Services Research Advancement Award. Any
individual, team or organization that has contributed significantly
to the advancement of the health services research community
of Canada may be nominated. Winners will receive a plaque and
$10,000 for use in the advancement of health services research.
Nominations must be submitted by March 30.
Summer institute
to study water issues
The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI)
and the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science of
the University of Miami have announced the third Summer Institute
on Interdisciplinary Science in the Americas. The theme is Integrated
Management of Water Resources in the Americas: Challenges and
Emerging Issues. Travel to and from Miami, housing, meals, expenses,
local transportation and health insurance will be provided to
all selected participants. Applications are invited from researchers,
managers, policy makers, community leaders, or advanced graduate
students with backgrounds or current activities related to water
issues. Applicants must also be affiliated with a research, educational,
or resource management institution. Detailed application instructions

be postmarked by March 30, 2001.
