Termination
of program
The Meteorological Service of Canada has advised that its science
subvention program formally known as the AES Science Subvention
Program has been terminated. Researchers who would normally have
applied to this program should refer to the Canadian Foundation
for Climate and Atmospheric Sciences (CFCAS). Information on
CFCAS is available at www.cfcas.org.
Canadian
psychiatric research
The Canadian Psychiatric Research Foundation (CPRF) is inviting
applications for two awards, each in the amount of $50,000. The
first award is available to fund research designed to enhance
the understanding of the causes and treatment of addictions-substance
related disorders. The second award is offered in support of
research to advance the understanding of the causes and treatment
of mental illness in childhood and youth. Each award will be
made to an established Canadian investigator for a project or
program of research which demonstrates innovation and which has
the potential for advancement in the field. The deadline for
receipt of applications is
Feb. 28.
NCEHR site
visit and workshop
The National Council on Ethics in Human Research (NCEHR) will
be at Memorial for a site visit on Thursday, March 1. As part
of their activities, they would be interested in having one-hour
discussions with social sciences researchers, health researchers,
and research participants. Faculty members who carry out research
involving human subjects can obtain information on the logistics
for these sessions by e-mailing either ebutler@mun.ca or joakley@mun.ca. NCEHR is also offering
a full-day workshop on March 3 and information on that event
may be obtained from the individuals noted above.
CCFC group
grant program
The Crohns and Colitis Foundation of Canada has issued
a call for letters of intent under its new Group Grant Program.
This program is designed to provide support for teams of up to
three investigators undertaking collaborative multidisciplinary
health research in Canadian research institutions. A group will
consist of at least three CCFC-funded projects, each funded at
a maximum of $75,000 per annum with an additional $60,000 per
annum provided for core support. Group grants will normally be
provided for three years. The deadline for submission of letters
of intent is March 12.
New fellowships
program
The Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Applied Health Research
(NLCAHR) has announced a new program of fellowships for masters,
doctoral, and postdoctoral fellows. The fellowships will support
research and training on applied health issues in multidisciplinary
settings including Medicine, Nursing, Social Sciences, Humanities,
Engineering, Physical Education, Education, Social Work, and
Physical and Biological Sciences. Applications may be submitted
under two deadlines: April 1 and Nov. 1.
SSHRC strategic
programs
Researchers are reminded of the upcoming deadline for the submission
of letters of intent under two SSHRC strategic grant programs
Challenges and Opportunities of a Knowledgebased Economy
and Exploring Social Cohesion in a Globalising Era. Complete
details on each of these two strategic themes may be found at
www.sshrc.ca. Web-based versions of the letter of intent and
CV forms are also available through the SSHRC website. The deadline
for submission of letters of intent is April 1.
NSERC strategic
grants
NSERC has advised that significant changes have been made to
the application instructions for the upcoming strategic grants
competition. These have been posted at www.nserc.ca. Applications must
be received at NSERC by April 17.
Climate
and atmospheric sciences research
The Canadian Foundation for Climate and Atmospheric Sciences
(CFCAS) is now accepting grant applications for research grant
proposals (separate from network proposals) for funding of up
to $200,000 a year. Application forms and guidelines are available
at www.cfcas.org. The deadline for
submission of applications is April 30.
