Duarte, a long-time employee retired from the Faculty of Engineering
and Applied Science, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 20,
at the Grace General Hospital in St. Johns. Mr. Duarte
leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 44
years, Kathy; his daughter Ana Maria (Gary) ODriscoll (Meghan,
Erin and Maria); son Tony Jr. (Belva Spiel) (Jacob); and a large
circle of friends and colleagues. Speaking on behalf of the Faculty,
Dean Seshadri noted that Tony was a very responsible, enthusiastic,
and caring individual who many in the faculty admired. We will
miss him very much. Friend and colleague Jim Cooper echoed
this sentiment. Tony was very dedicated to his family,
his work, and his friends, and we enjoyed working with him.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Duartes family has requested that
donations in his memory may be made to Tzu Chi Institute for
Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Vancouver General Hospital,
767 West 12th Ave. Vancouver, BC, V5A lM9. Dr. James W. ChurchDr. James W. Church passed peacefully away on Jan. 8, 2000, in his 83rd year. Dr. Church served as a professor of design engineering at Memorial from 1975 to 1979 and the university awarded him an honorary doctor of engineering degree in the spring of 1984. |
