Robert Michael Puddicombe

Robert Puddicombe pased peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on April 15. Mr. Puddicombe of Seal Cove, aged 46 years, was an employee at the Aquarena. Predeceased by his baby sister Sandra. Leaving to mourn with cherished memories are his wife Carol (nee Blackwood); two loving children: Tina and Robert; two precious grandchildren: Robert and Emma; parents: Michael and Frances Puddicombe of Holyrood; five brothers: Randy (Theresa), Pouch Cove; Wayne (Sharon), Holyrood; Richard, Paul, Alberta and Gary (Debbie), Holyrood; two sisters: Sophie (Bob) Rivet, Ontario; Michelle, British Columbia; special grandmother: Winnifred White; dear friend: Johnny Hunt; a number of nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and other relatives and friends. As expressions of sympathy, donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Bible Society.

Dr. Frederic Gomes Cassidy

Dr. Frederic Cassidy, awarded an honorary doctor of letters from Memorial in 1982, passed away at the age of 92. Dr. Cassidy's support for the Dictionary of Newfoundland English was cited in his oration during convocation in 1982. He was also the co-editor, with R. B. LePage, of another island dictionary, the Dictionary of Jamaican English. In recent decades, as chief editor, he has led a staff of researchers in producing DARE, the Dictionary of American Regional English.
