Crime Prevention Alert

This monthly report is compiled from information made available by the Campus Enforcement and Patrol unit. CEP is located in the Services Building on Memorials St. Johns campus, telephone 737-8561. At Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, the security office is Room AS-280, Arts and Science Building, telephone 637-6310. At the Marine Institute, Ridge Road, telephone 778-0456 to reach the security office.
The figures given below are based on the number of reports made to CEP during December 1999 and January 2000. Incidents reported do not necessarily result in criminal charges being laid; this depends on the outcome of an investigation.
Someone attempted to break into the Technical Services on Dec. 10. Two males were spotted and ran. On Dec. 21, two suspicious males were reported near Roasters Café in the Science Building. Damage was reported to the door of the café. On Dec. 22, the door of the bank machine in the TSC was damaged.
On Dec. 7, a resident of Guy Court heard someone trying to open an apartment door early in the morning. No one was discovered. On Dec. 16, there was a report of noisy students in Cartier Court. On Dec. 18, a student was ejected from Barnes House for unruly behaviour.
A bicycle was stolen from outside Guy Court Dec. 2; a jacket was stolen from the QE II Library Dec. 3; a jacket was stolen from the Earth Sciences building Dec. 6; a jacket was stolen from the Arts Building Dec. 7; there was money missing from the parking gate in areas 3 and 17 Dec. 9; some items were stolen from the Phys Ed Building Dec. 9; a backpack was stolen from QE II Library Dec. 16.
The Christmas tree outside the Dining Hall was vandalized Dec. 8.
A woman reported being followed on Dec. 16. CEP responded and no one was found; there was a report of suspicious person outside Squires House Dec. 4; a woman reported being followed on the walking trail behind Health Sciences Centre Dec. 8; a woman reported being followed and harassed by a man in the main tunnel Dec. 1. He followed her to Curtis House, threatened her and left; a woman reported being harassed by a man in the main tunnel Dec. 10.
Early in the morning of Jan. 14, a man reported being struck in the face in the Food Court of the TSC; a woman reported being assaulted in the main tunnel Jan. 31; a man reported being punched in the face in the Breezeway Jan. 20; there was a complaint of an unruly person in the Breezeway Jan. 21; there was a fight in the Breezeway Jan. 28; there was a fight in the lobby of the University Centre Jan. 28.
There was an attempted break and entry in an office in the Arts Annex Jan. 5; there was an attempted break and entry in an office in the Phys Ed Building Jan. 6; there was a break and entry in the University Club Jan. 6. Some liquor was stolen. As well, vending machines were damaged on the second floor of the arts building.
A VCR was stolen from Squires House Jan. 11; tools were stolen from Sub Station #2, Health Sciences Centre, Jan. 12; some items were stolen from Emergency Department, Health Sciences Centre Jan. 16; clothes were stolen from the laundry room, Grenfell College, Jan. 24; a backpack was stolen from the Phys Ed building Jan. 28; a backpack was stolen from the Phys Ed building Jan. 29.
A vending machine in the Chemistry Building was damaged Jan. 29; a bicycle parked in front of the Engineering Building was damaged Jan. 29.
