A MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OF NEWFOUNDLAND PUBLICATION
Volume 32 Number 16

 April 6, 2000

Having a ball

Li-Te Cheng, a PhD candidate in electrical engineering, sports his latest creation – a wearable computer providing instructions on ballroom dance. Intended for a novice practicing alone, this application shows the proper dance motion only when the dancer is looking down at his or her feet. In this way, the dancer can focus on the steps in the proper stance, and can summon help from the wearable computer by looking down at the feet (a common situation when learning to dance). Mr. Cheng works out of the Multimedia Communications Lab in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science.
