A MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY OF NEWFOUNDLAND PUBLICATION |
April 22, 1999 |
Air Miles
In September, Memorial will welcome 2,500 new students. One of them will be Nongnapa Naparat from Thailand. Ms. Naparat (called "Air"), who plans to study engineering, visited the St. John's campus with her family April 10-12.
The visit to Memorial was the last in a series made to universities in Montreal, Toronto, and several other North American cities. The family originally made contact with the university through Dr. George Hickman, Human Resources, who provided
help to the recruiting effort while in Thailand on other business. Recruitment officer Shona Perry-Maidment said the family was particularly impressed with the cleanliness of the campus, how friendly people were, and the technology here.
While in St. John's, the Naparat family was taken on tours of the area as
well as of the campus. The family is seen in the photo with representatives of some of the departments who made them feel welcome. (L-R) Napapong, Pongsawat, and Nongnapa Naparat;
Dr. Hickman; Jim Cooper, Engineering; Roongrawee Napasat, and Ms.
Perry-Maidment.
