Apply soon for Rothermere Fellowship

Earlier this year, the Gazette (April 25, 1996) told you about three Memorial students who received Rothermere Fellowships. We are pleased to report that all three are now immersed in graduate programs in the United Kingdom, with assistance from the lucrative fellowship. Students who read that Gazette article with more than a passing interest should note that the deadline for submission of applications for 1997 Rothermere Fellowships is Nov. 30, 1996. Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree from Memorial, and must have completed or be nearing completion of a masters degree from a university outside the U.K. The fellowship is valued at 7,000 sterling, plus college fees and airfare. CCMC receives welcome news

The Marine Institute-based Canadian Centre for Marine Communications (CCMC) received a boost Oct. 28, when the federal and provincial governments announced they would invest $5 million in the facility via the Canada/Newfoundland Agreement on Economic Renewal. The announcement was made by Premier Brian Tobin and St. John's East MP Bonnie Hickey at the CCMC's annual general meeting. CCMC will use the funding in a marine communications partnering program that promises to increase technology transfer, research and development, and commercialization of Newfoundland-based technologies in marine communications, navigation and surveillance.

How to get advance basketball tickets

General admission tickets for each set of Sea-Hawks basketball games will now be offered for sale beginning on the Wednesday prior to the weekend when the games will be played. For example, tickets for the Nov. 16 games went on sale on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Tickets will be sold in the Information Centre, Physical Education Building lobby, 8:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Fridays. Tickets not sold in advance will be sold at the door an hour before the first game. Tickets cost $2 for Memorial students; $4 for adults, $1 for children 12 and under; $2 for students 13 and over; and $7 for families. For details call 737-8130.
