Ballad

There’s a light shining bright in the window tonight
As the little one ran in so eager
As she placed in the window the tiny red light

Chorus:
Oh father dear father don't take it away
Remember a sailor far out on the bay
For if you only knew what would happen tonight
You would leave in your window that tiny red light

Father came home cold tired and wet
Hunger and cold for his fish bein' unsold
He says that the silence(?) must be for tonight
As he took from the window the tiny red light

Chorus:
Oh father dear father don't take it away
Remember a sailor far out on the bay
For if you only knew what would happen tonight
You would leave in your window that tiny red light

Next day there were a faint knock came at the door
When a sailor stood pointing far out on the shore
Oh once there were a noble barque in the breeze she did sail
With tears in his eyes he told father the tale

We followed your tiny red light said the man
It vanished from us and many were lost
That might have been saved by your tiny red light

Chorus:
Oh father dear father don't take it away
Remember a sailor far out on the bay
For if you only knew what would happen tonight
You would leave in your window that tiny red light
