History: Newfoundland, Canada

Text: A male singer invites a young, pretty girl to come to his father's farmyard to tend to the hens, ducks, geese, dogs, cats, sheep, goats and pigs.   Each verse of the song is about one of these respective animals and the accompanying choruses contain comic animal calls.

Tune: A lively major tune sung in 4/4 time.   The structure follows a four line stanza followed by a refrain.   The refrain is characterized by the 'adding on' of animal sounds so that by the end of the song the performer sings all of the various sounds made by the animals on the farm.
