Best of Friends Must Part

Song

I’m going to sing you a little song
It's a subject of my own
That the best of friends must part someday
At least now we are told

So if you lose a loving friend
Keep up a cheerful heart
For it's prophesized aIl in the end
That the best of friends must part

A young man standing in a door
With the one he loved so dear
He pressed her to his tender breast
And gently shed a tear

She looked at him and tried to say
All with an aching heart
Its prophesized all in the end
That the best of friends must part

So if you lose a loving friend
Keep up a cheerful heart
It's prophesized all in the end
That the best of friends must part

A sailor when he's going to sea
He leaves his wife at home
No one to help her in distress
By chance distress might come

He steps on board bids her adieu
All with an aching heart
For it's prophesized all in the end
That the best of friends must part

A soldier on the battlefield lay bleeding all alone
His thoughts were on some foreign land
And the friends he left at home

He knew that death was drawing nigh
And he had played his part
He prayed to god for it’s sad to say
That the best of friends must part

So if you lose a loving friend
Keep up a cheerful heart
For it’s prophesized all in the end
That the best of friends must part
