Joining Memorial

Memorial University is Newfoundland and Labrador’s only university and one of the largest universities in Atlantic Canada. Established as a memorial to the Newfoundlanders who lost their lives on active service during the First and Second World Wars, Memorial University has a special obligation to the people of the province.

Our location on the edge of the North Atlantic has very much determined who we are as an institution, from our cold ocean expertise, to cultural and heritage studies. While some might view the isolation of an island in the North Atlantic as a detriment to success, we have harnessed the location of this province as an opportunity, as a living laboratory for discovery and development.

We are a multi-campus, multi-disciplinary, public, teaching/research university with 5,000 faculty and staff offering:

  • More than 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs to 18,000 students across four campuses - St. John's, Marine Institute, Grenfell Campus, and Harlow.
  • 450+ online courses
  • Excellent teaching and research facilities, with the benefits of a small school and a welcoming community.
  • The Marine Institute, Canada’s leading centre of fisheries and marine training and one of the largest marine educational facilities in the world.
  • Harlow is an international campus in Old Essex, United Kingdom delivering ongoing and specialized one-time programming, internships and experiential learning to professional schools and academic departments at Memorial.
