SECTION 6: VIOLATIONS AND PENALTIES

6.1 General

Persons violating these regulations are subject to fines, towing and/or impounding of vehicles, and/or permits being rescinded.

6.2 Parking Violations

Minimum Fine

1806 (01) Parked in a time-expired meter space $12

1807 (02) Failure to display a current valid university parking permit for the

applicable designated area when a vehicle is parked on campus $20

1808 (03) Parked and displaying a permit in contravention of these regulations

(See Sections 2.3 and 2.4) $20

1809 (04) Parked in contravention of these regulations in an area other than

the area designated on permit displayed $12

1810 (05) Parked on a campus roadway $20

1811 (06) Parked on a sidewalk, walkway, landscaped area, or in any other area of campus not designated for parking $20

1812 (07) Parked at a meter in opposite direction of normal traffic flow $12

1813 (08) Double-parked $20

1814 (09) Parked in a space that is not a clearly defined parking space $20

1815 (10) Parked and displaying a permit on a vehicle other than the vehicle identified on the application form $12

1816 (11) Parked in a designated area at a time other than that permitted $12

1817 (12) Parked on a bus stop or in a designated drop-off area $45

1818 (13) Parked in such a manner as to obstruct or impede the movementof other vehicles or pedestrians $20

1819 (14) Parked less than one metre from a fire hydrant $20

1820 (15) Parked in a hospital emergency area, fire lane, or loading zone $45

1821 (16) Parked less than three metres from a fire door $20

1822 (17) Parked without an appropriate permit in a space designated for disabled persons $50

6.3 Rescinding of Permit

A parking permit may be rescinded for:

6.5.1 Obvious disregard of these regulations.

6.5.2 Defacing a permit, copying or duplicating

a permit, misuse of a permit, supplying

false information, or damaging or

tampering with traffic control signs or

devices as contained in Section 6.4 and

other sections of these regulations.

6.4 Payment of Fines - Contesting of Tickets

6.6.1 Fines for tickets issued on the university

campus or properties owned or occupied

by the university in the St. John’s

area are payable at the Provincial Traffic

Court, Atlantic Place. Fines for tickets

issued on the campus of the Sir Wilfred

Grenfell Campus are payable at the

Traffic Court in the Sir Richard Squires

Building, Corner Brook. Any persons

wishing to contest a ticket may do so at

the applicable court and at the time and

date shown on the ticket.

6.6.2 A minimum $35 towing fee will be

charged by the university and shall be

payable during normal business hours

at the Campus Enforcement and Patrol

Office in the Facilities Management

Building on the St. John’s campus, or at

the Cashier’s Office at the Sir Wilfred

Grenfell Campus, Corner Brook.

6.6.3 An impounding fee of $5 per day or any

part thereof may be charged for an

impounded vehicle and shall be

payable to the university at the

Campus Enforcement and Patrol

Office, Facilities Management Building

on the St. John’s campus, or at the

Cashier’s Office at the Sir Wilfred

Grenfell Campus, Corner Brook.

6.5 Release of Vehicles

Vehicles towed or impounded will be released

to the registered owner on the payment of the

applicable towing and/or impounding fee.

6.6 Disposal of Vehicles

Vehicles may be disposed of by the university

following impounding after 30 days and after

reasonable attempts have been made to con-

tact the registered owner.
