The Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering program at Memorial University is the only program of its kind in Canada. Expand your knowledge of ocean engineering in the world-class centre for marine related research.

Renowned for its unique approach, diverse research projects and exceptional faculty, graduate programs lead to Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees in ocean and naval architectural engineering and the related fields of hydrodynamics, marine structures, underwater vehicles and ocean environmental engineering.

Concentrations include marine hydrodynamics; marine structures; underwater vehicles; Arctic engineering; ocean environmental engineering; offshore safety and marine simulation.

Your graduate studies are complemented by numerous research groups on campus, faculty experts and outstanding facilities such as:

  • The Ocean Engineering Research Centre (OERC) involved in research, development and consulting in ocean engineering including the offshore petroleum and shipping industries
  • A 58 metre by 4.5 metre towing/wave tank
  • Autonomous Ocean Systems lab
  • National Research Council of Canada’s (NCR) Institute for Ocean Technology (IOT) adjacent to the engineering building with the world’s longest ice tank
  • Structures lab with cold rooms and highly-specialized testing equipment
  • Seakeeping basin, cavitation tunnel, extensive library and more
