Note: 1) Courses designated for the TEPL programme (designated by T) are intended for students registered in this programme, but may be opened to other students upon permission of the Office of Undergraduate Student Services.
This process will be carried out by a TEPL Management Committee, comprised of the following:
- a representative from Memorial University (NNTEP Coordinator)
- a representative from the Labrador Inuit Association (Education Advisor)
- a representative from the Sheshatshiu Band Council (Education Advisor)
- a representative from the Mushuau Band Council (Education Advisor)
- a representative from the Labrador School Board
The Management Committee will be responsible for establishing policy guidelines to assist the Coordinator in dealing with students on a day to day basis and to assist with program administration issues.
Students registered in the Revised Program reside either on the North Coast of Labrador or the Upper Lake Melville area. As a result, TEPL courses will be offered, on a rotating basis, from one Labrador community to another and include the Lake Melville area.
Students who enter the Revised TEPL Program will enroll in the same courses at the same time. This will allow the university to offer courses in a sequential and timely fashion. As a result, the core group of students who entered in September 1998 should graduate together in approximately three years.
All courses will be scheduled using the modular format to ensure the Classroom Teacher and Core Language Teacher Options are completed in a three-year time frame. This format will also permit students to participate in the Professional Seminars which will be added to each module.
While the focus of the Revised TEPL Program is a new group of students, there is a large number who have already started but not completed the program. To address this issue, a process of "sweeping" will be initiated. That is, students from the old program will enrol in courses required as they become available. These students will be contacted and asked to join the program. Their participation will be encouraged by NNTEP and the Labrador School Board.
Because courses will be delivered in modular format and in different communities, student teachers will be required to travel to other communities to attend courses. To ensure these individuals maintain their positions, arrangements must be made by the student teacher with the employer.
