Inspiration and Innovation in Teaching and Teacher Education
Edge Conference 2009: October 14-16, Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada

Call for papers

We invite you to join us on the leading edge and become a part of the future in teaching and teacher education. Edge 2009: Inspiration and Innovation in Teaching and Teacher Education will examine the future of teaching and teacher education and how we can best prepare teachers to be successful in twenty-first century schools. We want you to help shape that future.

The Conference will provide opportunities for researchers, teachers, administrators, policy-makers, and students to span traditional boundaries and generate new knowledge in the area of teaching and teacher education. Issues and ideas relating to the content, skills and knowledge of teacher education programs; internships and practica; certification and accreditation; mentorship; aboriginal teacher education; and continuing education of k-12 teachers, college instructors and university professors will be discussed in this innovative, inspiring and provocative forum. We are truly spanning the continuum of how we instruct our students at all levels of education.

As well as an impressive line-up of local, national and international speakers, the Conference will include numerous paper, workshop and panel presentations by practitioners, teachers and researchers. We would particularly like to invite you to respond to the Conference “Call for Papers.” Presenters may choose to submit written papers for publication in the peer-reviewed Conference Proceedings; selected papers related to the conference themes will, with the author’s permission, be published in an edited book on teaching and teacher education.

The deadline for submission of a title and short abstract – maximum of 1 page - is April 30, 2009. To submit your proposal, please use the form linked at the bottom of this page. Proposals will be reviewed within two weeks of submission. To be included in the conference proceedings, completed papers must be received on or before September 13, 2009.

We look forward to receiving your proposal and hope you will be able to join us in St. John’s in October 2009.

Who should submit a proposal?

We welcome submissions from researchers, college and university faculty and staff, school district staff, educational leaders, teacher-practitioners, students and others with an interest in teaching and teacher education. For a list of topics within the scope of the conference, please refer to the goals and themes page.

Presentation format

We are interested in all presentation formats. This could include empirical research, descriptions of promising practices, policies, and models, or provocative commentaries and constructive critiques that support best practices and engage school district, college/university and governmental leaders. You may have a research paper to present, or a multimedia presentation to give. You could propose to organize a panel of several presenters, or facilitate a session in which you profile an issue for a roundtable discussion.

Submitting a proposal

Submissions received on or before April 30th, 2009 will be reviewed by the conference program committee and proponents will be notified of acceptance of their proposals by May, 30th, 2009.
