The application of U/Pb geochronology to determine accurate and precise ages of rocks.
Much of my research involves the use of multiple mineral geochronometers (zircon, monazite, titanite, rutile) to document the age and sequence of igneous, metamorphic and deformation events in well-mapped areas, and the rates at which these processes occur in orogenic belts.
Recent projects have been carried out in the Appalachian-Caledonian Mountain Belt in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Massachusetts, Quebec and Norway, and in the Variscan Belt in Spain. Studies in Proterozoic and Archean terranes are ongoing in Labrador, Greenland and the Northwest Territories.
Dating of host rocks and events important in the formation of mineral deposits is also an area of continuing research.
