Nov. 7 - Parts of the new Copyright Modernization Act (also known as Bill C-11) were proclaimed into law. The changes in copyright law, which broaden user rights in the educational setting, will mean positive changes for the Memorial community.

The university is currently completing work on amendments to Memorial's fair dealing requirements to reflect the changes arising from the proclamation, as well as recent Supreme Court of Canada decisions. The university expects to bring forth a revised approach to fair dealing very shortly.

However, in the interim faculty and staff should continue to follow the Board of Regents approved requirements for Memorial made available at http://www.mun.ca/copyright/. For questions or for more information on this development, please contact Ruth Hickey at 864-2836 or rbhickey@mun.ca.
