Career Awards Program
Career Awards Program (CAP) allows Memorial University’s engineering and business co-operative education students to partake in overseas work terms in the areas of offshore oil and gas and sustainable and renewable energy sectors.

Objectives include:
- Enable students to experience technology transfer through industry exposure and experience what would otherwise be unavailable to them.
- Enable students to gain an appreciation of the global perspectives in these industries and to experience cross-cultural growth and development.
- Expose potential offshore oil and gas as well as sustainable and renewable energy employers to the value of co-op programs and their potential as a component of a business’s long term human resource development strategy.
- Eliminate barriers against socio-economic backgrounds so that all students can avail of similar opportunities and compete on a level playing field.
Administration/Funding
Administration
Administration and delivery of CAP will occur through the Co-operative Education Services Centre (CESC); this will include notifying successful applicants, facilitating payments, and maintaining CAP records. The CESC reserves the right to terminate any commitment made under CAP if the original proposals and objectives are not being met and reserves the right to inspect the work of the students and associated records.
Funding
Each award is determined by Memorial University's CESC, via the CAP committee, with the monetary gain ranging from C$1,000 to C$7,500. This award is paid directly to the student prior to the start of their work term and is based upon the assumption that a student, on average, should complete the work term without accruing debt. Factors considered include relocation, accommodation and other related work term costs along with cost of living factors and exchange rates for the countries and cities nearest to the work term location.
