Planning on working or studying (long-term) in the United Kingdom in the near future?
If so you need to know that there will be a U.K. mobile biometrics clinic visiting Memorial University on March 13, 2013. To determine if you need to complete the biometric process, please visit the U.K. Border Agency website, www.ukvisas.gov.uk, or the WorldBridge Service website, www.visainfoservices.com.
Visa applicants are advised to read all sections related to their particular visa type thoroughly to ensure they include all required supporting documentation in their application package.
What is a 'biometric' clinic?
It is a clinic where you will have digital fingerprints and photographs taken as a part of the visa process for the U.K.
Why would I be interested?
In November 2008, the U.K. Border Agency underwent a complete restructuring of their immigration system at which time they implemented biometrics as a part of their visa application process. The only physical locations in Canada to have this process completed are Ottawa, Toronto, Edmonton, and Vancouver (or a mobile clinic that visits Halifax once a month). Your visa application will not be viewed until you have enrolled your biometric information. Without the mobile unit, you will have to fly to one of the previously noted locations to have the biometrics completed at your expense.
How do I make an appointment?
Registration for appointments is now open. Please note that you cannot book a biometrics appointment without applying for a visa first.
The instructions to book a biometrics appointment is as follows:
- Go to https://www.visainfoservices.com/Pages/Welcome.aspx (i.e. WorldBridge Service)
- Select "United Kingdom" under "Where do you want to go?"
- Select "Canada" under "Where do you live?"
- Click "GO" in dropdown list
- Click on "Additional Services" in left-hand menu
- Click on "Mobile biometrics clinics" at the bottom of the list under the "Additional Services" section
- Scroll to the "St. John's, Newfoundland" section and follow the instructions under "How to apply for the service"
The fee is $150.00 plus tax for each application and must be paid online at time of booking. This fee is in addition to the visa application fee. When you have booked your appointment and paid, a receipt will be emailed to you which you need to print and bring to your appointment.
It is suggested by the service provider (i.e. WorldBridge) that applicants purchase the return courier service at the same time they book their biometrics appointment. This means it is all prepaid. Since everyone needs to purchase this service it will make the appointment a little faster. However, when it comes to sending the application package to New York, it is best to utilize Canada Post Overnight, FEDEX, UPS or another similar courier provider.
What do I bring to the appointment?
The Clinic will be located at Memorial University, Smallwood Centre (a.k.a. University Centre), 4th Floor, UC 4000. It is required that you bring the following to the clinic:
- Valid passport
- Completed and printed visa application form
- Receipt for the online visa fee payment
- WorldBridge receipt for the online mobile biometrics clinic appointment payment
