The Department of Chemistry recently handed out its undergraduate student awards for the 2012-2013 academic year. The awards were handed out by Dr. Helmut Schwarz, the 2013 Job Visiting Professor, at a reception following his second research lecture, on April 30th.
Jennifer Smith was the recipient of four awards, including the Canadian Society for Chemistry Silver Medal for highest standing in her penultimate year, the H. J. Anderson Award for Best Third Year Performance by a Chemistry Major, the Don and Evelyn Barton Prize in Physical Chemistry for her performance in Chem 2302 and Chem 3303 and the Inorganic Chemistry Prize for performance in Chem 2210 and Chem 3211.
Heather Jill Nash was the recipient of the award for the H. J. Anderson Award for Best Fourth Year Performance by a Chemistry Major not receiving a Convocation Award.
Ian Lehr, not pictured, took home two awards: the H. J. Anderson Award for Best Marks in Chem 2400 and 2401, as well as the Joan Keough Award for Performance in Physical Chemistry (Chem 2301).
Curtis Colwell took home the H. J. Anderson Award for Second Best Third Year Performance.
The Joan Keough Award for Performance in Analytical Chemistry (Chem 2100) was awarded to Cody O’Brien.
The Dorothy Earle Prize for the Highest Marks in First Year, Chem 2100, 2400, 2401, 2210, 2301 and 2302 was received by Brandon Furlong.
The R. C. Mews Award for Excellence in Laboratory Demonstration was awarded to Valerie Parsons.
Jessica Besaw was the 2012-2013 Hyperchem Award winner.
