Are you a Memorial University Alumni looking to reconnect with your University? Memorial University’s Department of Career Development and Experiential Learning offers a wide range of opportunities for alumni to get involved in a number of on-campus professional development programs, networking events, job shadowing and other experiential learning initiatives designed to enhance our students skills, knowledge, career search and experiential learning experiences. These opportunities include becoming a mentor to a current student, attending employer networking events, being a guest panelist, presenting information about careers in your field or sharing your career story to name a few.  Stay involved, stay connected.

Job Shadowing: Career Development and Experiential Learning recognizes the value of practical experience. Job Shadowing is designed to provide students with the opportunity to enter a place of work and observe, participate and reflect on a particular industry. There are many ways to get involved, invite a current Memorial student to job shadow today, and help expand their perspective on career options. Get involved today.

Semester: Ongoing

Time Commitment: 7 hours – 2 weeks

Students Involved: Individual

Guest Speaker: The unit of Career Development and Experiential Learning currently has a number of professional development programs, events and activities that are offered to our students and alumni every year. These initiatives have been designed to provide career development and experiential learning opportunities and career related resources for our students. Our guest speakers play an important role in these programs and events and are valuable resources for our alumni and students at both the undergraduate or graduate levels. Our past and current guest speakers have contributed to our students and alumni by sharing their time, talent and expertise by way of a lunch and learns, panel participation, participation in our professional development programs and delivering workshops, just to name a few. Coaching/ Mentoring: The Department of Career Development and Experiential Learning is continually looking to provide current undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to connect with alumni and business professionals. Coaching/ Mentoring provides an opportunity for alumni to impart their career experiences on current undergraduate and graduate students. These interacts are invaluable as they provide a different perspective to students, looking for career exploration. Coaching and Mentoring can be completed through various avenues, such as simply taking a student out for coffee or through professional development programs in the areas of Entrepreneurial studies, Arts and Science. Networking Opportunities: Career Development and Experiential Learning is always looking for new and innovative ways to connect our students and alumni to employers and members of our business community so our students can showcase their education, skills and knowledge, make valuable career connections and build their professional network. Some of the initiatives we have in place to accomplish this for our students include our Dining Etiquette series, the Arts, Science and Alumni networking events, Toast for Hire Learning and the St. John’s Board of Trade on-campus networking events.
