National Objectives
The Anti-Racist Training and Materials Project was designed to build up a national
infrastructure of regionally strong collegial educational support and scholarship
in the areas of anti-racism and anti-oppression. The project has two phases,
diligently addressed and implemented by five Team Leaders, a Management Committee,
Co-ordinator, and student/graduate research assistants. Ongoing communication
throughout the project by means of conference calls, meetings and conference
presentations insured the ongoing visibility and progress of the project goals
and the successful dissemination of information. As a result of this effort, the
Management Committee, Team Leaders and school representatives have become a
valuable resource to the Canadian Schools of Social Work as consultants and
advisors on these matters. This group of individuals consists of skilled
curriculum and course developers, workshop facilitators, classroom educators,
developers of educational tools, organizational developers, scholars, and a
social movement of colleagues, all committed to advancing the agenda of
anti-racism and anti-oppression within the Canadian Schools of Social Work.
The team leaders connected with all of the schools of social work
in their region, resulting in the mobilization of initiatives of the
school representatives. To support their endeavor, an extensive national inventory
was created and is accessible on this website. The inventory includes
bibliographic references, print journals, curriculum resources, organizations,
publishers, Aboriginal print media, websites, audiovisual materials, and
virtual libraries. A print copy of this inventory will be available for
people who do not have access to the Internet.
The Anti-Racist Training and Materials Project was designed, developed and
implemented in two phases. These phases are summarized as follows:
Phase One: The administration of a needs assessment to determine the needs
of educators, staff and students, as well as the resources they require.
Phase One also saw the development of a national inventory of resources.
Phase Two: The implementation of the results of this needs assessment,
addressing needs and providing resources. The inventory under development in
phase one was completed, along with the website and various reports and
documents.
