International Social Work

Official journal of the international associations of social workers, social welfare, and schools of social work. It is published quarterly by Sage publications, London, England. Includes articles on: social workers interests in the Third World, the challenge for international social work, street children, social workers defending the urban poor faced with demolition threats in Third World cities, providing social services to the enemy.

Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies

This journal, published by Carfax Publishing Limited, has existed under its old title New Community since 1971. As migration and ethnic studies have become of increasing relevance at a global level, the journal has evolved to take account of this new reality. The journal has acquired Associate Editors in North America and the Asia-Pacific region and changed its name to emphasize its subject matter more clearly to readers.

The journal will continue to publish the results of first class research on all forms of migration and its consequences, together with articles on ethnic conflict, discrimination, racism, nationalism, citizenship and policies of integration. Contributions to the journal, which are fully referred by independent scientific specialists, are especially welcome when they report on comparative research. Contributions are invited from any branch of the social sciences, and the results of inter-disciplinary research are of particular interest.

New Internationalist

A monthly progressive, highly readable, and critical publication put out by an international co-operative of journalists aiming at communicating development ideals to the widest possible audience. It exists to report on the issues of poverty and inequality, to focus attention on the unjust relationship between the powerful and the powerless in both rich and poor nations, to debate and campaign for radical changes necessary between and within those nations if the basic material and spiritual needs of all are to be met. Themes included Africa in the 1990's; global warming; trade wars; the Palestine/Israel conflict; the Philippines under fire; and east meets west, north forgets south.

The Ploughshares Monitor

A quarterly newsletter of a working group in disarmament and development sponsored by Canadian religious and civic organizations. Published at the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies at Conrad Grebel College at the University of Waterloo.

Refugee Update

A project of the Jesuit Refugee Service/Canada and the Canadian Council for Refugees. Current issues focus on the refugee backlog in the courts and its ramifications for conditions of refugees living in Canada.

The Responsive Community

Rights and Responsibilities (Washington: Else George Washington University). A provocative new journal on communitarianism challenging individualism.

Social Development Issues

Published jointly by the IOWA School of Social Work and the Inter-University consortium for international social development: focusing on alternative approaches in meeting human needs in the developed nations and the Third World. It includes articles on Ghandi and the new society; survival characteristics of the poor in Bangladesh; organizing impoverished women in Latin America; the debate on poverty, marginality, and the underclass; mental health and professional training in relation to Southeast Asia refugees.

Social Work

The journal is dedicated to improving practice and advancing knowledge in social work and social welfare. Practice topics include HIV/AIDS, health care, aging, substance abuse, cultural competence, and more.

Social Work Abstracts

For over thirty years, The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) abstracting service has been the starting point for literature searches in social work and social welfare.
