From Garden to Classroom Outreach Program
A new environmental education program is available to K-12
teachers, students, environmental educators, and community
organizations.
The Garden to Classroom program will provide a unique opportunity
to engage young people in hands-on activities and hopefully
encourage proactive attitudes and behaviour in areas of
environmental protection, conservation and enhancement.
At the same time, MUN Botanical Garden will be provided with the
opportunity to bring some of its expertise into the classroom.
While all programs will supplement the science curriculum,
connections will be made across the curriculum. The development of
this program will take three years, incorporating feedback from
teachers, students and other participants.
MUN Botanical Garden's seasonal education programs have offered
instruction, activities and resources enriching the Newfoundland
K-12 science curriculum since 1971. This expansion of the
Garden’s education programs entitled From Garden to Classroom
outreach program, will involve the development and implementation
of a series of outreach programs, supplemented by web-based
resources and teacher training workshops that will meet the current
needs and challenges of educators and community organizations.
The goal of the From Garden to Classroom is to reach teachers and
students across the province through the development and
presentation of this program.

From Garden to Classroom Outreach Education Program is
is supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research
Council (NSERC) PromoScience funding program.
